When Slyvanian Ambassador Trentino decided to break international norms and law by invading Freedonia in a war of conquest he did not expect the the novel tactics of President Firefly. Despite having no formal military education, or much education at all, President Firefly was able to humiliate the Slyvanian military, reminding the world that we are the land of the brave and free.
Even though President Firefly has yet to receive a single vote, he is committed to the principles of freedom, democracy, and liberty. On his first day in office he began the first sortition appointment system in Freedonian history by randomly picking his new Minister of Finance by virtue of him owning a peanut shop outside of the House of Representatives. Even though the President's choice eventually was discovered to be a spy the sortition system itself gives all citizens and equal chance for public service based wholly on the whims of our President.
It is said that "taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society," in Firefly's Freedonia "taxes are the price we pay for an impoverished society!" Useing the simple tax plan of taxing everyone more President Firefly was able to bring in a great deal government revenue. Any damage to production this tax increase caused was offset by the large donation Mrs. Teasdale made to the Republic.
